We Live In A Broken World

Nov 09, 2016

Listening is the oldest and perhaps the most powerful took of healing.  It is often through the quality of our listening and not the wisdom of our words that we are able to effect the most profound changes in the people around us.  When we listen, we offer with our attention an opportunity for wholeness.  Our listening creates sanctuary for the homeless parts within the other person.  That which has been denied, unloved, devalued by themselves and others.  That which is hidden.  ~Rachel Naomi Remen

We live in a broken world.

Loss, grief, disappointment, fear, alienation, hatred, insecurity, poverty of resources and of spirit, discrimination and violence tear painfully and tragically at the fabric of our common lives. None of us escapes the wrenching blows that are part of human life.

It’s why Someone To Tell It To exists and is so profoundly needed. Humanity cries out in its distress and its dis-ease for comfort and answers and explanations and hope.

In the United States, we have just experienced one of the most unsettling seasons in at least a generation. Maybe more. We know that this season is not yet over. As we wait to see what comes from our new political leaders there is still much that is unsettled and uncertain.

In our intentional listening to people and in being fully present with them we know that brokenness and division, resentment and anxiety, distrust and disillusionment run deeply through many human hearts. We hear the stories. We know the reasons for the feelings and the fears.   And we grieve over of the gripping affect those stories have over one another’s lives.

We indeed live in a broken world.

But we also believe in healing.

Someone To Tell It To exists to create a culture in which healing can be sown, in which it can take root, in which redemption can be found and broken pieces can be fused back together again. Hearts. Spirits. Relationships. Self-worth. Lives.   We believe that in healing ways the broken pieces that all of us carry can be fused back together again.   Or maybe for the very first time.

In this especially unsettled season, our fervent hope, indeed, prayer, is that all of us- all of us – will recognize that everyone of us carries with us burdens of shame, guilt, regret, worry, longing, unrealized dreams, loneliness or prejudice that keep us from knowing joy or contentment or love or peace. Gifts that we overwhelmingly believe we all deserve and are meant to possess.

We are all in this together. We all need one another to navigate through this turbulent life. And we all have more in common with one another than we have that separates us from one another.

In this season, especially this season, Someone To Tell It To wants the world to know that if we listen – truly, intentionally, graciously listen and grow to know one another’s very human and incredibly powerful stories – we can begin to heal.

Our hearts. Our spirits. Our relationships. Our self-worth. Our lives.
