The Essence of Reconciliation
Dec 06, 2013We had a wonderful meeeting with Eldon Fry, college pastor at Messiah College today. We discussed ways in which we may be able to serve the college community through our services. Dr. Fry also shared this story about his visit to Robbin Island and Nelson Mandela’s prison cell. A powerful story on a day of reflection and remembrance …
It was during my second trip to Robben Island that the guide, a gentle former prisoner who lived the essence of reconciliation called me out of the crowd and asked me to join him in unlocking Nelson Mandela’s former cell, saying “It was white men who locked this cell door, but today a white man and a black man together unlock the cell together.” Then as he led the group on, he invited me to reflect inside the cell. I will forever treasure that moment and even now it brings emotions to the surface. We must be people of reconciliation if we are to unlock cells of life.
